STEMI Program Receives Silver Award from AHA

Columbus, Ind. -   The STEMI program at Columbus Regional Hospital has been awarded the Silver Lifeline Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association for emergency cardiac care. To achieve this designation, a hospital must demonstrate twelve consecutive months of achieving greater than 85% in 9 performance indicators related to STEMI care for our patients.

Columbus Regional Hospital has also scored 98% on the indicator of "door to balloon within 90 minutes," which is the American Heart Association guideline-standard. The time interval starts with the patient's arrival in the emergency department, and ends when a catheter guidewire crosses the culprit lesion in the cardiac cath lab. The likelihood of muscle damage to the heart is decreased as the time of treatment is also decreased. Currently fewer than half of STEMI patients nationwide receive treatment within the AHA guideline-recommended timeframe.
