The Bartholomew County Commissioners have appointed Rick Shedd, MD, to serve on the Columbus Regional Hospital Board of Trustees. Shedd replaces George Brueggemann, MD, who retired from the board in December after 16 years of service. Shedd has been appointed to a four-year term.
Dr. Shedd is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine, and is a board-certified surgeon with Southern Indiana Surgery. He is also the Columbus Regional Hospital past chief of staff, serving as the hospital’s chief of staff from 2009 to 2011. A longtime member of the CRH Medical Executive Committee, Dr. Shedd has worked closely with CRH leadership to plan the hospital’s long-term strategies and goals.
“I am very pleased and honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve Columbus Regional Hospital in my new capacity as trustee,” Shedd said. “The hospital is an invaluable community asset. This is a very exciting time to serve on the board, as the hospital continues to grow, innovate and provide the very best care for this community.”
CRH Chief Executive Officer Jim Bickel said Shedd brings invaluable knowledge and experiences to the board.
“Rick has been a champion of our hospital for many years,” said Jim Bickel, CEO. “He has a long history of contributions to CRH and this community and I look forward to his vision and insight as a member of our board.”
CRH Chief Medical Officer Tom Sonderman, MD, said Shedd’s medical knowledge will bring a valuable perspective to the board.
“Rick’s extensive experience in all aspects of health-care delivery will add tremendous value to the board,” said Sonderman.
All members of the Columbus Regional Hospital Board of Trustees are appointed to four year terms by the Bartholomew County Commissioners. The board provides overall policy setting for CRH and oversight for the quality of care and financial well-being of the organization.
The commissioners recently reappointed Tracy Souza to another four year term. John Nash was elected by board members as the board chair. Current board members include Dr. Rick Shedd, Tom Lentz, John Nash, A.H. “Hutch” Schumaker, Don Michaels and Tracy Souza.
