David Thompson, MD, was recently named Columbus Regional Hospital chief of staff. Nominated by his peers and voted into office by the active medical staff, Dr. Thompson will serve a two-year term.
Dr. Thompson has been chief of staff-elect for the past two years. He succeeds Jason May, MD, who recently completed a two-year term and moves into the past-chief-of-staff role. Amanda Dornfeld, MD, was named chief of staff-elect, and will fill the chief of staff position in 2015.
“Dr. Thompson’s primary role as chief of staff will be to serve as medical and administrative leader of the medical staff. This includes, but is not limited to, oversight of physician credentialing, quality monitoring and serving as liaison to hospital administration,” said Thomas A. Sonderman, MD, VP & Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Thompson joined the Columbus Regional Hospital medical staff in 1998. He is a surgeon with Southern Indiana Surgery. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency at University of Kentucky Medical Center. He completed a fellowship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Dr. May joined the Columbus Regional Hospital medical staff in 2003. He is an emergency medicine physician with Emergency Physicians Inc of Columbus. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his residency at Indiana University Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Dornfeld joined the Columbus Regional Hospital medical staff in 2006. She is a family practice medicine physician with Sandcrest Family Medicine. She graduated from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and completed her residency at Ball Memorial Family Practice Center.
*** Dr. Dornfeld is the first female physician to be elected chief of staff-elect in CRH history.
