CRH receives State Department of Health public service award

Columbus -

Columbus Regional Health’s Healthy Communities Initiative received the Indiana State Health Commissioner Public Service Award for its work with the Communities Putting Prevention To Work grant.

Indiana State Health Commissioner Gregory Larkin, MD, recently presented the award to CRH Director of Community Health Partnerships Beth Morris.

"One of my jobs is to recognize excellent work in efforts to improve public health," Larkin said. "Bartholomew County has made significant strides by adding policy changes, educating the public and getting the community involved in the movement."

Bartholomew County was one of two Indiana counties to receive the funding in March 2010. The $2 million, two-year grant was intended to support local initiatives designed to reduce obesity rates, to increase physical activity and to improve nutrition.

"Community Health improvement does not happen without the help of many groups and individuals,” Morris said. “We have had wonderful support from Healthy Communities and hospital staff and from partners throughout Bartholomew County."
