CRH hosts Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive

Columbus -

Columbus Regional Health is partnering with the Indiana Blood Center to host the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive.

The Drive, held annually in honor of Indiana fallen officers, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, in Meeting Room 1 in the basement at Columbus Regional Hospital.

The CRH blood drive is part of the 2013 Indiana Fallen Officer Blood Drives taking place from April 19 - August 9. The program began 56 days before Flag Day (June 14) and will end 56 days after Flag Day. This timeframe allows dedicated individuals the opportunity to donate three times in honor of those who sacrificed all while serving their communities. This statewide initiative features donation sites in every county in Indiana.

On July 10, 2001, Sgt. Dan R. Starnes of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a line of duty gun battle with a burglary suspect four weeks earlier. To keep his memory alive, his surviving spouse, Janice, organized the Sgt. Dan R. Starnes Memorial Blood Drive in Morgan County later that year and has organized a blood drive each year since in Dan’s memory. In 2007, she decided to take the blood drive statewide and renamed it the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive.

Thank you for honoring our fallen officers and commemorating the sacrifice they made for their communities.
