What Is My Prognosis for Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer?

What Is My Prognosis for Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer?

A prognosis is a statement about the prospect of surviving and recovering from a disease.

Nonmelanoma skin cancer is very common, and few people die from it. It is common for nonmelanoma skin cancer to come back. Or it might grow in other places on your skin. Ask your doctor about what you can do to monitor your skin health.

Because nonmelanoma skin cancers do not have to be reported to cancer registries, it is only possible to estimate statistics about these cancers. Here are the most recent estimates of nonmelanoma skin cancer from the American Cancer Society:

  • More than 2 million people will be diagnosed with nonmelanoma skin cancer this year.

  • About 2,000 people will die from nonmelanoma skin cancer each year.
