Columbus Regional Hospital was featured in a USA Today story about food waste pulper and dehydrator systems.
CRH has had a pulper for several years. The dehydrator was installed when the kitchen was rebuilt after the 2008 flood. The end waste product still goes to a landfill, but it's reduced by about 83% in weight and about 95% in volume.
As the dehydration process is refined, CRH officials would like to make the end product available for compost to be used by the hospital and around the community.
