Palliative Care Services, launched June 2019 by Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, is specialized care offering people relief from symptoms resulting from a serious illness while they are being treated by their physician. Since Hospice staff is specially trained in palliative care, it was natural for Our Hospice to lead Palliative Care which brings an extra layer of support to patients and families.Palliative care differs from hospice care in that it can be provided at any age or stage of serious illness and can be provided together with curative treatment.

Since it started, Palliative Care has been provided in an outpatient setting with an on-site clinic at the Hospice Center. Thanks to a generous donor, the on-site clinic’s new location will be a newly renovated space at Columbus Regional Health across from the Cancer Center. This will allow the Palliative Care Services Team to interact and have access to many patients who frequent the hospital seeking care for chronic illnesses such as heart, lung and kidney as well as cancer patients; those who will benefit most from the service.

“These services are a strong partnership between Our Hospice of South Central Indiana and Columbus Regional Health, and are providing a valuable service to our patients and physicians. Columbus Regional Health is focused on being your health care partner for life with philanthropy allowing critical work to go further faster to benefit the health and well-being of our region” shared Columbus Regional Health CEO, Jim Bickel.
