    • General Information 
      • Residents will be provided with many opportunities to grow as professionals, further developing direct patient care skills, leadership skills and problem-solving strategies while strengthening their professional values and clinical judgment.Many skills and traits will be enhanced in one year of residency including, but not limited to, communication, team-building, trust, integrity and leadership.
      • PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for post graduate year two (PGY2) residency training.
      • Upon completion of the residency program, the resident will be a well-rounded, generalist practitioner who is able to function in a wide variety of practice settings. The goals and objectives of the Columbus Regional Hospital Residency Program include each of the required goals set forth by ASHP. The required educational competency areas include the following:
        1. Patient Care.
        2. Advancing Practice and Improving Patient Care.
        3. Leadership and Management.
        4. Teaching, Education, and Dissemination of Knowledge
      • CRH Residency Program has a one-year commitment requirement for each of our two residents.This program obtained accreditation from ASHP in October of 2012.
      • Pharmacists who have completed our pharmacy residency program have gone on to complete PGY2 residencies, fill academic positions, and to work as clinical pharmacists.
    • Residency Experience
      • Columbus Regional Health provides a unique environment that offers large hospital services with a close knit team feel. Our cardiac cath lab, new emergency department, expanded oncology department, and pulmonology clinic are all state-of-the-art and allow residents to encounter a diverse patient population and have exceptional learning experiences.
      • Being part of the CRH pharmacy residency program provides a variety of opportunities ranging from medication management in an outpatient setting to emergency medicine and critical care. Residents will have a wide range of rotations including required, longitudinal, and even elective options. All of our rotations and preceptors strive to achieve a well-rounded and meaningful pharmacy residency experience that prepares our residents for their next step in their pharmacy career.
      • Prerequisite Experience:
        • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
        • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana

      • Essential functions:
        • Provide direct patient care, including patient-specific monitoring
        • Document pharmaceutical care activities as outlined by the pharmacy department or residency program
        • Process and verify medication orders in the pharmacy computer system
        • Provide drug information to other members of the health care team and/or patients
        • Maintain a positive and productive working relationship with other members of the pharmacy department and health care team
        • Review and evaluate medication profiles
        • Contact and confer with the physician, clinical pharmacist, and/or nursing staff with questions regarding medication orders
        • Complete pharmacy resident activities as outlined in the postgraduate year one pharmacy residency manual
        • Follow all hospital policies and procedures

About Columbus Regional Hospital

  • History:
    • Columbus Regional Hospital was originally known as Bartholomew County Hospital. It was built in 1917 and had a small staff including 5 physicians and a handful of nurses. Over the past one hundred years, CRH has been proudly serving the southeastern Indiana communities with the finest quality of health care.
  • Current:
    • Columbus Regional Hospital is located at 2400 E. 17th St. in Columbus, Indiana. Columbus Regional Health is a health system serving a 10-county region in southeastern Indiana. The health system contains more than 2,100 employees, 225 physicians on medical staff and 250 volunteers. Columbus Regional Hospital, the system’s flagship facility, is a 225-bed not-for-profit, providing emergency and surgical services and comprehensive care in numerous specialty areas.

About Columbus Indiana

  • Columbus, Indiana is located in south-central Indiana. It is roughly a 45 minute drive to Indianapolis, a 1 hour drive to Bloomington, and just over a 1 hour drive to Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Columbus is home to several architecturally significant structures including several churches, schools, and a courthouse all located in the historic downtown area. Other areas of historical interest include the Inn at Irwin Gardens, the Miller House, and City Hall.
  • There is no shortage of activities and things to do in Columbus, Indiana. From movie theaters to architecture tours to famous parks, Columbus has a lot to offer its residents including a wide selection of chain and local restaurants. There are also many nearby sites of interest including a state park and lots of shopping options.
