Looking Back: A Decade at CRH

Columbus Regional Health is engaging in a lot of exciting and important work, not only within our organization, but through partnerships in the community; however, effective progress is made when we can reflect on the past while envisioning and planning for the future.

The New Year serves as an apt time to do just that. This one is extra special; however, as we enter a new decade. The 2010s are behind us and we welcome 2020! Let's take a moment to reflect on past 10 years as we look forward to what's coming....

2010

  •  Amid recovery from the June 2008 Flood, which closed the hospital for five months, CRH adopted the tagline of “Thinking Beyond” as we dreamed and planned for our future.

2011

  • An exciting partnership with IU Health began for complimentary services within cardiovascular care including the ability to offer open-heart procedures at our hospital. Two IU Health physicians live in the Columbus community and provide cardiothoracic services, complimented by our nationally recognized STEMI program, specialty services through the Heart and Vascular Center and Cardiac Rehab featuring the Pritikin Program, our health system offers comprehensive care that keeps patients close to home.
  • The flood wall, which spans the parameter of the hospital, became fully operational.

2012

  • To better reflect our expanded regional reach that extends beyond acute hospital-based care, Columbus Regional Hospital became Columbus Regional Health
  • In what was ravaged by flood waters, emerged a gem of the hospital campus -- the Innovation Center, which now houses our Simulation Lab and Think Tanks.

2013

  • Wellconnect opened in downtown Columbus. WellConnect is a health and wellness resource center where you can connect with specialists who help establish relationships with healthcare providers navigate health insurance and access Columbus Regional Health services. The center also offers educational wellness programs, all in a friendly modern environment. Helping you feel better… even when you’re well.

2014

  • Columbus Regional Health is one of the few hospitals in Indiana to become Baby-Friendly as officially recognized by the World Health Organization.

2015 & 2016

  • We began to further integrate as a health system as we incorporated Columbus Regional Health Physicians, a network of primary and specialty care practices.
  • We opened a new Emergency Department, twice the size of the existing space and expanded our Cancer Center to incorporate a new medical oncology treatment space and two top-of-the-line linear accelerators for radiation oncology.
  • We launched Inspire, a clinically integrated network devoted to lowering healthcare costs in our region.

2017

  • We celebrated our 100 year anniversary,100 Years of Caring.
  • VIMCare Clinic, formerly known as Volunteers in Medicine, opened. The practice dedicated to serving the uninsured and underinsured and most at-risk populations of Bartholomew County.
  • We partnered with many organizations and groups in the Columbus community to form Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress (ASAP).

2018

  • Our organization invested in its future and the future of the community with property acquisitions and partnerships including two plots of land on and just off of State Road 46 on the west side of Bartholomew County, and the former Fair Oaks Mall, in partnership with City of Columbus and Heritage Fund.
  • MyCare Family Med opened on Columbus' west side. MyCare offers the option of treatment even if a patient does not have a regular provider, meaning the practice can be utilized as a regular care option or when illness arises and a patient needs to see a provider quickly. In most cases, same-day or next-day appointments are available.

2019

  • The system-wide conversation to a new best-practice state-of-the-art electronic medical record system, Epic MyChart, was complete with the launch of the hospital-based system, which paired with the 2017 launch of Epic within the physician practice network.
  • We opened the Treatment & Support Center (TASC), a new specialty service dedicated to substance misuse treatment and recovery.
