Workforce Spotlight: Chevez White, Director of Physician Recruitment and Retention

Chevez White_cropWhen Chevez White was a physician recruiter at one of her previous jobs, a physician she was trying to recruit liked to play squash. “If you play squash with me, I’ll come, but I need a squash partner,” he said to her. Chevez agreed, despite not knowing how to play. She showed up at the gym, and the physician taught her how to play. “By my fifth game, I beat him, and he joined. I have been playing squash ever since,” Chevez said.

Chevez joined Columbus Regional Health earlier this year as system director of physician recruitment and retention. She is in the process of relocating to Columbus with her mother, one of her sons, and her dog after living in the Chicago area. Most recently, Chevez worked for a provider of social services and community health services in Illinois as the director of physician recruitment for four hospitals and 27 federally qualified health centers.

To help recruit high-quality, culturally competent medical staff to CRH, one area of focus for Chevez is residency programs in the tristate area of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Additionally, as a previous administrator for loan repayment programs for physicians and providers in Illinois, she wants to ensure a loan repayment program is available to CRH to help attract physicians. Physicians working in facilities that address underserved areas can receive loan repayments to support paying off medical school loans.
While she was not previously familiar with CRH or Columbus, she has been impressed with the community and the people at CRH. “Everyone I’ve met in the hospital is very warm and welcoming,” she said. “Columbus is innovative. This area is so nice. I feel good about moving hearth and home to join CRH.”

In addition to now playing squash regularly, Chevez also enjoys the performing arts and in-door cycling. She tries to cycle 60 miles a week. She is looking forward to getting to know more about CRH and the community once she gets settled.

Welcome to CRH and the community, Chevez – we’re glad you’re part of the organization!
