Hospital opens expanded Wound Center

Columbus -   Columbus Regional Hospital recently opened its expanded Wound Center.

The Wound Center currently previously provided wound care and now also provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine for chronic and non-healing wounds. It is located at the hospital's 10th Street Outpatient Services location (at the intersection of 10th Street and Schnier Road).

The opening of the expanded Wound Center marks the addition of a panel of physicians and nurses trained as specialists in wound care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine.

The addition of the nursing staff will allow for individualized case management at each visit and access to the physician on a regular basis will allow for more extensive treatment which will accelerate the healing process.

Wound Center Panel Physicians include Dr. John Hladik, Dr. Douglas Roese, Dr. Robert Kavelman, Dr. James Lopes, Dr. Kathleen Smith and Dr. Stephanie Dunkle-Blatter.

The Center's Hyperbaric Treatment Room houses two hyperbaric chambers with the capacity to expand to three chambers. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which is administered on a daily basis, allows a patient to breathe 100 percent oxygen (2-3 times greater than atmospheric pressure). The increased oxygen in the tissue creates the optimal environment for the body's natural healing processes to repair damaged tissue.
