CRH now offering cancer rehabilitation services

Columbus -

Columbus Regional Health recently introduced a new Cancer Rehabilitation Program.

The goal of the program is to help patients return to the highest level of function and independence possible, while improving overall quality of life – physically, emotionally and socially.

Cancer treatments can cause side effects including fatigue, difficulty with memory or concentration, muscle pain, limb swelling, weakness, balance problems, swallowing or speech issues and more.

“These treatments can greatly impact quality of life,” said Sue Woosley, Director of Rehabilitation & Mental Health Services. “We are very excited to offer cancer rehabilitation as another tool to help strengthen our focus on improving the lives of survivors and getting them back to doing the things that they love.”

Cancer rehabilitation services include:

     • Pain management
     • Patient and family education and counseling
     • Stress, anxiety and depression management
     • Nutritional counseling
     • Physical conditioning, endurance and exercise performance improvement
     • Social, cognitive, emotional and vocational improvement

These services are usually covered by health insurance providers and are offered to patients by a knowledgeable and sensitive medical staff that is specially trained to work with survivors of all forms of cancer.

Specialty caregivers from a pool of disciplines including physicians, nurses, physical  therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists,  registered dieticians, fitness specialists, social workers and  psychologists work together with each patient on a personalized rehabilitation plan to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life.

Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation is a nationally recognized cancer rehabilitation certification earned through Oncology Rehab Partners. Staff certification was supported by Columbus Regional Health Foundation as part of its mission to support patient care programs.
