Exercise Program

Patients of the Weight Loss institute, will work with members of our team including our Registered Dietitians Julie Knight and Laura Martin as well as our Nurse Practitioners Suzannah Brown and Samantha Grider to assess patient’s medical and nutritional needs as well as their interest in exercise and their current physical activity level. If patients wish to participate in the offered exercise classes or have more one on one sessions for exercise, our team will ensure this is scheduled for the patient.

It will be required for patients to fill out an exercise form if they need more than a baseline exercise program due to physical limitations or extended health-related conditions. These patients will be referred to our Bariatric Exercise Therapist Laura Martin.

How the program works

The exercise opportunities within our program are available to all of the patients at the Weight Loss Institute including, non-surgical and surgical medically supervised weight loss as well as patients after bariatric surgery.

Fitness Classes: These are offered via our telehealth platform. Every weekday, Laura Martin will lead fitness classes at varying times via telehealth. The recorded version of these classes will be available to participants the following day.

Initial fitness testing is available as needed. Based on test results, one-on-one consultations can be scheduled. Required self-guided fitness modules will be available upon personalized recommendations. Follow-ups will be scheduled throughout with final testing towards the end of program. Each patient will walk away with the tools and resources to help maintain the schedule they have acquired successfully through the program. Follow-up appointments can be scheduled upon request after the program.

Meet Our Exercise Coordinator

Laura Martin, MS, RD, LD, CPT

Laura always knew that fitness and exercise were going to be a part of her professional career. “It is hard to discuss nutrition without physical activity, especially as it pertains to weight loss.” Laura received a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in Dietetics/Fitness, Nutrition and Health. The Fitness, Nutrition and Health aspect of her degree focused on how the science behind exercise and patient interaction to change behaviors. Laura became a Certified Personal Trainer in 2014 and has used her skills to help develop programs and help her patients with adding physical activity into their lifestyle. She is excited to ‘flex’ her knowledge and skills of exercise in content and programs at the Columbus Weight Loss Institute.

For your convenience during the summer months, all exercise programs will be offered online. Live exercise programs will return in the Fall. A brief description of the programs can be found here. If you are a patient, call the office at 812-376-5640 to sign-up for our online exercise programs.
