Year of transition for Volunteers in Medicine clinic

Columbus -   Volunteers in Medicine Executive Director Keith Weedman has submitted his letter of resignation. His last day will be June 30. Keith was named VIM executive director in October of 2006.

During his tenure, Keith was responsible for qualifying the clinic to be able to obtain medical malpractice coverage for retired physicians, dentists and other health care professionals, supported the evolution of the chronic disease management services and implemented new infrastructure to initiate the transition to the use of electronic medical records.

“Keith has done fantastic work during his time at VIM. He has overseen a growth in needs, changing demographics and significant staffing challenges,” said Dave McKinney, VIM Board president. “Keith has at all times demonstrated the highest level of integrity, compassion, professionalism and leadership. He has left his mark on VIM and will be missed.”

A search committee consisting of the VIM Board Executive Committee, as well as representatives of Columbus Regional Health Foundation and Columbus Regional Health Physicians, has been formed to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.

“Keith brought a deep commitment to serve those in need, to give them a hand up so that they could break out of the cycle of poverty,” said Beth Morris, director of community health partnerships at Columbus Regional Health. “He does a wonderfully effective job of empowering people to change their life circumstances.”

With the departures of Weedman and former Clinical Director Wanda Hadley and the coming implementation of the Affordable Care Act, 2013 will be a year of transition for VIM.
