Amid COVID-19, WellConnect Connecting Community to CRH Healthcare Resources

Since WellConnect started in 2013, the team of Connection Specialists has continuously adapted service offerings to fill a need in the community.

From helping individuals find a new provider to navigating insurance options, as well as adapting their workflow to help guide individuals during COVID-19, the Connection Specialist team continues to find solutions for members of the community with a smile and a personal touch.

“In a time where everyone is uncertain, we pride ourselves on being that certain thing they can count on,” said Kelly Patel, program coordinator at WellConnect.

In addition to Kelly, the team includes three connection specialists: Sara Bishop, Jes Montgomery, and Kristi Stewart.

The calls received by the team are usually related to one of four concerns:

  1. If a person has a concern he may have contracted the Coronavirus or is experiencing respiratory symptoms, the team guides that person to the Columbus Regional Health Triage Resource Call Center to be evaluated by a trained nurse.
  2. If a person needs medical attention not related to respiratory issues, such as poison ivy or a tick bite, the team schedules the individual a non-respiratory-related acute appointment.
  3. If a person doesn’t have insurance and needs an acute non-respiratory appointment, WellConnect refers the individual to VIMCare.
  4. Additionally, as many CRHP offices are now offering telehealth appointments, the connection specialists inform those who might be vulnerable or scared about leaving their house that telehealth is an option.

The ability for the team to adapt in their roles to the current healthcare environment has been achieved through open communication with the Columbus Regional Health Triage Resource Call Center, CRHP offices, and VIMCare, and making sure all know the preferred processes.

Ongoing communication and a strong partnership have enabled the different teams to work as one cohesive group to best support and guide the community.
