TULIPS for Techs: Jackie Haley, Breast Health Navigator

Jackie Haley, Breast Health Navigator.

Please share your story of why this technologist is so special:

"From the moment I arrived at the Breast Health Center for a stereotactic biopsy, Jackie was by my side. She knowledgeably answered all my questions about stereotactic vs. ultrasound biopsy, the exact steps of the procedure, the purpose of another mammogram after the procedure, and when the results would be available. As an academic librarian, I had several questions—she never displayed impatience or irritation in answering my queries.

Her explanations were clear and concise. Her explanations of the steps during the procedure were immensely helpful; understanding what a physician is doing to your body—when you are conscious but cannot see the activity can be concerning for the patient. Her explanations were pertinent in helping me understand what was going on and why—and helped me focus on remaining still. After the procedure, I was “wrapped” with an ice pack and aftercare instructions were discussed. Jackie made sure I understood the instructions—and she also advised me of any quirks my breast might display after the procedure.

I was advised the biopsy results might not be available for a few days—the results were posted the next day on MyChart. Jackie called me within minutes of the posting to make sure I was aware of the results. Her constant presence and attitude during my appointment at the Breast Center were central to my comfort before, during, and after the procedure. Employees like Jackie are the reason I consider CRH my only choice for medical care."
