While it might sound unusual when Kensi Dorrough says she has “no work home,” it’s because she is always working in a different Columbus Regional Health Physician (CRHP) office.

As Lead Medical Assistant Liaison and part of the CRHP float pool, Kensi and the other eight liaisons provide front office and clinical support when needed to all of the practices. In her lead role, Kensi looks at the schedule for each upcoming week and places float pool team members in locations that need additional staff. “I love that when a doctor’s office calls in short-staffed or has an emergency, all of our floaties are trained across multiple practices. We can go into a practice with no questions asked and know exactly what we need to do,” Kensi said.

When a practice manager requests support from the float pool team, Kensi helps determine which liaison is best fitted for that practice. “We do it based on patient volume to how many staff is down to how many providers they’re going to have,” she said.

Kensi and the other liaisons are also credentialed Epic trainers. Every other Wednesday, they lead a class of new medical assistants, licensed practical nurses, and registered nurses to learn the electronic medical record system.

Kensi joined the health system three years ago as a front office specialist and then earned her medical assistant certification. “I honestly can't say enough great things about her,” said Manager of Practice Operations Erin Sullivan. “She consistently trains our new hires in Epic ambulatory and is a go to for medical assistant questions for staff from multiple departments. She brings a positive and uplifting vibe everywhere she goes.”

Kensi values the learning experiences she has been given at CRH. “Working in various specialty offices has taught me a lot. I never imagined I’d become knowledgeable in wound care, infant care, or OBGYN care,” she said. Those skills have made a positive difference in the practices, too. “I've heard from many of the managers that they truly appreciate the float pool staff when they come over to help,” said Erin.
