Biography

Dr. John Chambers is a board-certified, fellowship trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who specializes in multiple aspects of adult and pediatric spine surgery for conditions such as scoliosis, trauma, disc herniations, spinal stenosis and degenerative conditions.  He has been providing both operative and non-operative spine care for the residents of southern Indiana for over 20 years.

Dr. Chambers began his post-graduate studies by earning a degree in Chemistry at Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated with honors.  He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and was elected to the Alpha Omega Honor Society for academic achievement. He completed an internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Georgia.  While in Georgia, he served as a certified ring physician for United States Amateur Boxing as well as a ringside physician for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He advanced his training by completing a fellowship in spine surgery at the Leatherman Spine Center/Spine Institute for Special Surgery offering him the opportunity to work and train with several world-renowned leaders in spine health and surgery.  His research and writing of orthopedic and spine topics has resulted in publications and presentations at major meetings.

Dr. Chambers believes that avoiding surgery, in many cases, is the smartest path to achieving the most successful result. When non-operative treatment methods do fail, recommendations for surgery are only made when the predicted results are expected to dramatically improve the patient’s quality of life. His approach to surgical treatment of spinal disease is to select the least invasive, most effective, and scientifically proven treatment available tailored to each individual patient and their needs. His interests include minimally invasive surgery, computer-assisted navigation and robotics.

Dr. Chambers remains an avid sports enthusiast and athlete having completed dozens of Ironman triathlons.

Dr. Chambers also serves patients at the Columbus and Greensburg offices.
