Biography
In 2003, Dr. Sonderman was named Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. He has also served as the Patient Safety Officer since 2003.
As Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Sonderman serves to strengthen the relationship between hospital administration and the medical staff. He is the chief administrative leader responsible for medical staff clinical quality within the organization and works closely with both administrative staff and members of the medical staff and its leadership to maintain a high quality of medical care. Dr. Sonderman provides executive leadership, direction, and administration of the Columbus Regional Health System medical staff and physician support systems.
Professional Experience
Dr. Sonderman joined the medical staff at Columbus Regional Hospital in 1989 as an attending emergency physician. He graduated with honors from the University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He attended Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was Chief Resident in Emergency Medicine at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Sonderman is board certified in Emergency Medicine and also received certification in medical management from Tulane University and American College of Physician Executives.

Leadership Positions
Dr. Sonderman has served in several leadership positions at Columbus Regional Health, including Chief of Staff, Medical Director of Quality Management, Medical Director of Prompt Med Immediate Care Center and Occupational Health Services, Medical Director of Employee Health Services, and Medical Director of the Emergency Department.
Community Affiliations
Dr. Sonderman is actively involved in the community and is a member of the Columbus Rotary Club, a board member of the Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation, and immediate past co-chairman of Healthy Communities Initiative.
Dr. Sonderman is a highly-respected, knowledgeable leader and is committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and innovative leadership to our medical staff.
During his free time, Dr. Sonderman enjoys outdoor activities, such as bicycling and fishing. He also enjoys traveling with his wife, Therese, to visit their three adult children.
