CRH Nursing Spotlight: Casey Stewart

Casey StewartBeing a nurse is something Casey Stewart has wanted to do as long as she can remember. Her life initially took a different career path, though, working many years as a hair stylist. But a few years ago, nursing was “pulling at her heart strings,” she said. Within two weeks, she had enrolled in a nursing program at Ivy Tech in Madison, Indiana.

Casey has worked on 3 Tower since joining Columbus Regional Health in May 2020. A friend of hers – David Gray, an RN who works in Nursing Resources – told her “what a great employer CRH is,” and that he really enjoyed working for the organization. Initially interested in working in a NICU, because she saw firsthand the role of a NICU nurse when her twin sons spent time in a NICU as infants, Casey wanted to hone her skills and gain medical-surgical experience before possibly pursuing that path. Now that she is on 3 Tower, she is really enjoying her role. “I like my floor, because we do get a wide range of diagnoses to care for – I think that’s why I’m so happy where I am,” she said. She also really enjoys the team she gets to work with every day. “Everybody works well together and helps each other out. It just feels like home,” Casey said. While Casey spends most of her time on 3 Tower, she has helped by working on COVID units.

Casey has worked at other healthcare organizations, and she said Columbus Regional Health stands out in both how it takes care of employees and how things are organized. “I don’t really question what is needed from me. I also feel like I can go to my supervisor – anyone above me – and I have lots of support,” she said.

Casey has returned to Ivy Tech in Madison on several occasions to speak to new nursing students. She offers tips and tricks to help them feel confident when they begin working as a nurse. She also tells them that Columbus Regional Health is a great place to work because of the opportunities nurses have to advance in their education and the training offered for new nurses. “The training program for new nurses is phenomenal,” she said.

“There’s just a good feeling at Columbus,” Casey said.

We are so glad you have that good feeling working at Columbus Regional Health, Casey, and we are grateful you are part of our organization!
