  • Lauren Fleck
    • Graduated with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2023 from Ohio Northern University.
    • Rotation or learning opportunity most looking forward to:

I am most excited for my Ambulatory Rotation. I have always loved medication management and meeting with patients face-to-face. It allows me to assist in my patient’s health and form a relationship with them to provide the best care possible.

    • Reason for choosing a residency:

I chose to pursue residency to further my pharmacy knowledge. I am able to get experience in many different opportunities that include projects, staffing, and interacting with mentors. Overall, it is an amazing opportunity to continue to grow as a pharmacist and get as many individualized pharmacy experiences as possible.

    • Residency Project:

My residency project is an overall procedure to de-escalate broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy after a continuous 48-hour utilization. This project will allow a pharmacist to evaluate a patient’s antibiotic regimen and discuss therapies with physicians to ensure appropriate antibiotic usage and prevent further antibiotic resistance.

    • Outside pharmacy interests:

I enjoy reading, thrift shopping, and spending time with friends and family whenever I can.

  • Ashley Thomas
    • Graduated with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2023 from Butler University.
    • Rotation or learning opportunity most looking forward to:

I am most looking forward to either Critical Care or Cardiology because these are the patient populations I am most interested in as well as the two areas that I would ideally like to work in after completing residency.

    • Reason for choosing a residency:

One of my career goals has been to be a pharmacy specialist and completing a residency is one of the best ways to approach that because you get the equivalent of 3 years of training in 1. Coming from a retail pharmacy background in school, I wanted to put myself in the best possible position to not only obtain a staffing or clinical position in a hospital, but also set myself up for a possible PGY-2 if I decide on that path.

    • Residency Project:

Evaluating the efficacy of Anti-Xa monitoring compared to aPTT monitoring in patients on therapeutic heparin

    • Outside pharmacy interests: Traveling, crocheting, cooking, and beekeeping
