Overall, the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is about 1 in 23 for men and 1 in 26 for women. A screening colonoscopy is the best way to prevent and detect colorectal cancer in its early stages when it is most treatable.

National Women Physicians Day, Feb. 3, marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849.
