Justin Back served as a mental health technician supporting adult patients in the Mental Health department for nearly seven years when he decided to switch roles to serve a younger population. He is now a Front Office Specialist at Columbus Pediatrics.

In his role, Justin receives phone calls from parents wanting to schedule sick visits, immunizations, annual checkups, and medication reviews.

Justin received an Associate’s Degree in education at Ivy Tech and has enjoyed opportunities to help educate patients – he helped lead patient education groups in Mental Health.  It was not easy for him to leave the Mental Health department, because the team became family to him. But ultimately he is glad to have the opportunity to take on a new role. “I’m glad to be experiencing a different method of healthcare and interacting with different people,” he said.

Justin’s time working in Mental Health helped him become more social by talking with patients and having meaningful conversations with them. He describes himself as being "a bit goofy" and comfortable talking with people, which helps when connecting with both older and younger patients. “Sometimes just making a patient smile is enjoyment,” he said.
