CRH Workforce Spotlight: Michael McCauley, Police Officer

McCauley 2021_newsMichael McCauley celebrated 10 years of service at CRH last year, and one thing he finds special about CRH is the family aspect he feels working here. “It seems like everyone is a family, and everyone is here to help each other,” he said.

Michael is a police officer on the Hospital Police Department. He has worked in Protective Services all 10 years at CRH. Prior to joining CRH, he was a retired deputy sheriff in Louisville. He and his wife moved to Columbus so she could be near her family and where she grew up, Michael said. He likes the differences of working and living in a smaller town versus a larger city. “Everybody knows CRH in Columbus,” he said.

Michael said that CRH is ahead of the game by adding a police department. He believes it is an important level of added security to provide to employees, patients, and visitors. As a sworn police officer, Michael said the only thing that has changed from his previous role as a security officer is the level of authority. “We still have the same calls of service – we open doors; we help patients; we help visitors.” A typical shift is 12 hours. There are usually two police officers and one security officer on each shift. One will be working throughout the hospital, one will work in the ED, and the other will work outside of the hospital, checking on other facilities. They rotate coverage areas every four hours. “It’s different almost every day – that’s a good thing,” Michael said.

The family aspect of CRH is why Michael has worked here for a decade. “To me, CRH takes care of their employees,” Michael said. Because the police and security officers move around a lot on the job, Michael said they pretty much see everybody, and that has allowed the officers to get to know many people across the health system. Being a part of the CRH work family is where Michael sees himself for a long time. “I see myself working here until they get rid of me,” he joked.

Michael, we’re glad you’re part of the CRH family, and congratulations on your recent Service Award!
