HEART ATTACK
What is it?
The flow of oxygen-rich blood is blocked from a section of the heart due to plaque buildup in coronary arteries.
What are the symptoms?
- Pain or squeezing feeling in the center or left side of the chest
- Pain or discomfort in the upper part of the body
- Cold sweat
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Shortness of breath
- Unusual fatigue
What to do?
Do not ignore the symptoms. At the first sign, act fast, and call 911.
HEART DISEASE
What is it?
A lifelong disorder of the blood vessels of the heart that can lead to heart attack.
What are the symptoms?
- Men tend to experience pressure or squeezing in the chest.
- Women have sharp, burning pain in the neck, jaw, throat, abdomen, or back.
What to do?
Eat foods low in fat and salt, as well as lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, fish, fiber, and lean poultry.
HEART FAILURE
What is it?
The heart is not pumping blood as it should, and the need for blood and oxygen is not being met.
What are the symptoms?
- Shortness of breath, especially when lying down
- Fatigue
- Coughing or wheezing
- Swelling in feet, ankles, and legs
- Weight gain from fluid buildup
What to do?
- Track your weight, blood pressure and fluids daily.
- Take medicines as prescribed.
- Lead a healthy lifestyle.
